Review # 1 was written on 2012-12-07 00:00:00 Ronny Davis Simply stellar history. A simple and abiding truth about Americans is we don't like to talk about our failures. Reconstruction sure counts as an enormous one. Singletary briskly you through the most controversial era in American history. While the focus is on the militia and the factors working both for and against them, the backdrop has plenty of detail. Best of all, the writing is direct but colorful enough that even reluctant readers should be able to finish it pretty quickly. To date this is the only book I've read by him, but that will likely change very quickly. |
Review # 2 was written on 2008-03-02 00:00:00 Annie Flanzraich An enlightening history of the RI slave trade before and after the revolution. There is an interesting documentary, Traces of the Trade, by Katrina Brown also available in the library. |
