AN excellent compendium on the shapes of modern drama and the differing approaches and contexts that modern drama has taken over its history of thousands of years. I was actually unaware that there was a particular point in history not 150 years ago that Wagner instituted when there was a distinct shift from the classical to the modern complete with realist drama taking center stage as it was to usher in a new era of dramatics. That said, the shedding of the old identity and bringing the new realist identity to the forefront that tackled such intense theoretics using realism, absurdity, and symbolism was an important step in what we see today on the stage. Fascinating.

I only read Casina from the bk & don't plan to read more. That play and the translation was awesomely hilarious. At first I was confused with all the characters & their unfamiliar names but after reading a summary on wikipedia, the play was easy to follow and very entertaining.
