Review # 1 was written on 2008-04-05 00:00:00 Karen Cavaioli Excellent set of essays regarding the problems of studying popular culture in early modern England. The first chapter by Tim Harris is definitly the best starting chapter I think I've ever read in a collection of essays; it carefully details what's problematic about the study of popular culture, and it sets the tone well for the rest of the essays. |
Review # 2 was written on 2014-01-29 00:00:00 Kyongon Choi A little dated now but worth reading for Harris' deconstruction of what exactly we mean by 'popular' and 'culture' as well as Barry's rigorous interrogation of what is known about literacy in early modern England. |
