Review # 1 was written on 2017-09-25 00:00:00 Maria Diz Ignore the title. This is an excellent book. I liked how Lapierre wove together all the different story lines as he described the early years of the discovery of the AIDS epidemic. It's fascinating to hear how it emerged and think about how helpless people felt when they couldn't identify the root cause or even understand how AIDS was transmitted. And then they discover the virus and develop a test but doctors have to just sit by and admit to the patients that they have no cure. And then even when AZT comes around there are questions about how you run trials and determine if a medication works. It's all very eerie to read so many years later when we know the scale of the disease now. Anyhow, this is a fascinating read and I definitely recommend it.
