My copy, which I bought new a number of years ago and could never 'get into'. I'm disciplining my self to read through it now. Lots of questions arise... not sure why because Moody Press is reliable. I am not familiar with the author, but he has been on the faculty of Moody Bible Institute since 1980. #28 Developing Good Habits begins with a reference to a book by a devout Mormon. While the book referenced is not about religion, it gives me pause to have it referred to in a book which I expect to be Biblical in its entirety, hence the title. Maybe that was not the author's intention. It appears that Alistair Begg thought so, from his Foreword which says in part "Not only are we given practical biblical insight, but we are encouraged to believe that, with God's help, we can make fresh discoveries and vital progress in each of these areas." My concern is not with what this author wrote, but in referencing an author who has a completely different worldview from that of the Bible, specifically one who does not believe in the deity of Christ. And, in addition to which, the seven habits in the Covey book are based on seven principles of Mormonism, which (need it be said?) is not based on the Bible. This hole is digging deeper... I really have a problem with this. It is not my intention when I choose a book to read to nitpick the content or the author. It grieves me to find such disparity. I would much rather be in agreement, but when it comes down to it God's Word is the basis for the Christian's discernment. 6.13.2020 Not finishing this book. Stopped on page 114. No longer in my collection. I obviously misunderstood the intent of the book from the title.

I want to preface my remarks by saying this is not an area where I focus a lot of attention and so others who spend a lot of time in historical theology may find this work more illuminating and an easier read. There are some really good insights in the work, but this alternative proposal to George Lindbeck's The Nature of Doctrine is a dry read for a person who has a passing interest in a philosophical approach to studying the development of doctrine/dogma in Catholic/Orthodox and early Protestant congregations.
