Review # 1 was written on 2007-10-21 00:00:00 Gene Siegrist I wish I could've seen this exhibition! Witkovsky's text does a wonderful job of contextualizing central and eastern European modern photography. The social and political dislocation in which the works of art were created are central to their production and meaning. While one should still consult monographs about individual artists for a full picture, this book lays bare the cultural and thematic resonances in photograhy of the era.
