Review # 1 was written on 2014-06-07 00:00:00 Felipe Gonzalez This is one of the volumes that is designed to replace the Oxford's Arthurian Literature in The Middle Ages. This volume focuses on the English versions of the legend in the medieval period. This is an excellent overview of some of the more well known Arthurian works such as Malory and Gawain and The Green Knight, lesser known works like Layamon and the Alliterative Death of Arthur are also covered. Scholars that contribute chapters include Peter Field and William Barron. An update of a classic work that packs in a lot more information than the earlier single volume edition. |
Review # 2 was written on 2011-07-24 00:00:00 Walter Peters All of these collections are excellent if you're looking for scholarly essays on a range of Arthurian topics within each tradition. There wasn't much here helpful specifically for me, but it is a well edited and interesting collection of work if you have a more general interest (or if the English Arthur is closer to your interests, of course). |
