Interesting work--history of the American film industry around the time of the First World War. The works discredits many myths surrounding WWI films (only 14% of films produced during the war dealt with the war) and looks at the entire film industry including advertising/promoting films, actors/producers, the development and set-upof theaters and film corporations. More focused on how the film industry made use of the war to grow and develop and how the indutry helped promote the war effect than how the war impact films of the time.

A decent quick overview, with generally sound comments and background information (always the most useful thing this series can bring), although a big black mark for wasting space on a truly idiotic comment by Stephen King from 1981 where he claims that the interior sets used for the set-piece alleyway scene render it unworkable for modern audiences! So manifestly untrue and considering the ephemeral piffle that almost all King film adaptions have been, supremely redundant. Useful bibliography and source notes for further reading.
