This book is another one I call "foundational" for learning about the history of the environmental "movement" (sorry, I just choke when I type this word) in America. It's backed-up with footnotes and documentation. It is a fascinating look at how in the end, everything seems to come down to human personalities--that despite good intentions, we just cannot get over ourselves. A must for anyone involved in the quest...

Just bought this massive history of film; never expecting to obtain it at the bargain price I did. I referenced it a few years back at the public library and am now glad to have my own copy. The earlier parts dispel common myths of the early cinema routinely passed on through the general film literature and discourse. I'm nowhere near finishing this. But it's obvious from what I have read and seen in this beautifully assembled book that this is one of the very finest overviews of the movies yet published.
