Review # 1 was written on 2011-05-31 00:00:00 Gerardo Gonzales A decent book on affect and emotions, Plantinga's arguments are too cognitive for my liking. Although some good discussions of films come up, the constant prioritization of reason as an integral part of affect and emotion, seems limited to me and not congruent with other affect studies. While Plantinga has read deeply and widely on the emotions, there is far too little engagement with the affects. |
Review # 2 was written on 2012-07-23 00:00:00 Richard Desjardins An analytical collection of essays on one of my favorite Hollywood character types. I'm still not sure what the chapter on Garbo was doing mixed in with the rest, but the author's analysis of The Lady Eve brought the book back up into the 4-star range for me. Worth the time if you enjoy the topic. |
