Review # 1 was written on 2011-02-08 00:00:00 Robert Obrien There was a lot of good stuff in here. There was also some quotes that didn't really have anything to do wih freedom, except that they may have used the words "free" or "freedom". At times, I had the feeling that some of the selected writings were the results of a hasty google search for the words "thoreau" and "freedom".

Review # 2 was written on 2020-12-16 00:00:00 Julian Simmons Here's a good, middle ground overview..... Of interest is the stressers in the south that had nothing to do with abolitionists. This was written in the first decade of the 20th century, so it is close enough to events before various myths were built. But at the same time it was far enough in time to gain perspective. Highly recommended.
