Peter Munz died in 2006 and it is a great loss. His work stands apart from his influences and the fact that he was a historical writer makes his approach to philosophy easier to absorb than his teachers. Few writers could claim to be the student of both Karl Popper and Ludwig Wittgenstein and Munz is the exception. In this book Munz blends literature, history and philosophy with cognitive neuroscience to expose how much we are not only adding too, but also, subtract from our propositions, including our explaination of experimental results. He views all knowledge as hypothetical organisms that must survive both critical and empirical challenges in the environment. The ease with which he writes, and expounds critically on the the work of Popper helped me to understand Popper in a new way. In this work he refutes arguments of deconstructionism and philosophical relativism and categorizes the value of any explanatory thesis as good, bad or false subject to change based on new facts. He is a pleasure to read and one of those authors that once I read a few of his books, I wish to read all of his works.

If you are looking for a process philosophy approach to theory of mind and consciousness, the is THE book to read. Griffin's book has a clear, lucid writing style which is something of a rarity among process philosophy literature in general.
