Review # 1 was written on 2016-05-19 00:00:00 Angela Riche Using both archaeological and historical evidence to try to draw a picture of Merovingian burial practices - and their changes over time. It's not a very big book, but then the material is a bit limited and Effros has done her best with what she had. The book could possibly have benefited from a proper 'Conclusion'-chapter, summarizing and concluding all the thematic chapters in one unified presentation of what the book wants to say. It definitely merits that (though I would not propose that instead of the last chapter that is, how the habits and customs continued on into the Carolingian world, because that is quite important as well). |
Review # 2 was written on 2008-02-24 00:00:00 Mark Zaharis Explores symbolism and archeology in mostly Merovingian burials. A little dry in writing; but informative and factual. |
