Review # 1 was written on 2015-08-19 00:00:00 Azzam Muhammad I did not read all of this book. I enjoyed the parts about McInerny's education, family life, authorship of mysteries, and reflections on Notre Dame. I skipped the chapter on philosophy. Maybe some other time I'll go back to it. I appreciated the bluntness of this autobiography. He is willing to speak his mind about other scholars. He is grateful for so much of his life--his wife, his children, his career and that is good to read. Now I need to read some of his mysteries again although when I learn about how quickly he wrote them and how formulaic they are I might not be impressed. Still, he is honest about that aspect of his life too. He needed the money and they made money. |
