I first read this book in the early 90s. Not long after I finished my undergrad studies, I browsed through Beck's Bookstore, which was the campus bookstore, to see what students had to read. I'm interested in history and the social sciences, so I read this book. This book is somewhat bizarre. This is supposed to be a book about the social sciences. While sociology is heavily covered, there is very little about economics, psychology and linguistics. There is a kind of unreality about this book. The views of philosophers on the social sciences are cited and discussed in this book. But what they talk about doesn't refer to, nor has much relevance, to the social sciences. This book is like some Borgesian imaginary book about a parallel universe.
