Review # 1 was written on 2020-02-02 00:00:00 Joseph Caravello A very enjoyable and thought-provoking book of essays and speeches given by Higginbotham over the years. Two essays particularly interested me; in the first, Higginbotham very effectively challenges the commonly held view that one of the South's assets at the beginning of the Civil War was its more martial character. The author refutes this and makes his case that New England - particularly Massachusetts - had a more martial background. In the second essay, Higginbotham compares Massachusetts and South Carolina as "fomenters of revolution." Very good stuff... |
Review # 2 was written on 2018-07-20 00:00:00 Jamie Schmale Won this Through Goodreads First Read. Great story of strength and survival. Some of the things that happened it this book blew my mind. I am really glad that got the chance to read this book. Reading these types of stories really make me re evaluate all the pointless things I worry about. We be recommending this to my friends and family. |
