An early classic in the study of American public opinion. The book used survey research to explore support for civil liberties in the American public. This was completed during the Cold War era and provides a usewful sense of how the American mind approached civil liberties. Dated now, but a very important work at the time.

Great collection of interviews with interesting people who speak about interesting things. A must-read if any of the featured interviewees catch your eye, and honestly a pleasant surprise even if they don't. The interview with Haunani-Kay Trask was particularly enlightening, as who ever really hears about Hawaii or the actual sentiment of Hawaiians? But then, all the interviews brought up things I didn't know, or new perspectives on things I knew a little about. Definitely a great little book. Easy to read, perhaps hard to stomach, and in a strange way wonderfully reminiscent of that odd, odd time between 1998 and 2002.
