There is not a single satisfactory element of this book and I can't understand why my professor would choose it. The book is poorly written and sometimes condescending or childish in tone. Each chapter opens with an ugly splash page and a story that supposedly expresses the themes of the chapter, which would be fine if they were shorter, more relevant and not awful. The layout of the book is terrible and only about half of each page is actually used by the main text, leaving space for the book's many, many irrelevant, ugly and cheap visual aids. The entire book is in full color for no reason (raising the price) and filled with all kinds of insultingly dull quotes, comic strips and clip art which have no right to be there. The table of contents and index are very equally poorly designed and not very useful. Entire sections, such as the one on near death psychological development, have no scientific substance at all and only tell you what "some people think". Even the physical form of the book itself is sub-standard. I'm not sure how this happened, maybe it's because the cover is so thin, even compared to other paperback textbooks, but the book barely maintains its shape when held or carried in a bag, which is inconvenient and damages the book. There's no point in me grasping at straws for any positive things to say about this book to balance this review since I would never recommend this textbook to anyone.

This was a bit thick with text and a little too much information. It was difficult at times to correlate the ideas in the beginning of the chapter with the ones at the end. There was just a disconnect.
