Review # 1 was written on 2013-09-24 00:00:00 Florentino Hidalgo A collection of high-profile American sociologists mainly in dialogue with Pierre Bourdieu's theory of Distinction. John Hall's chapter is the leading theoretical dialogue in the book. The rest is, ultimately, disappointing. There are good chapters by Jeff Alexander and Alan Wolfe, but they have little to do with the rest of the book. Most chapters are American case studies in the sociology of art, with some discussion on gender thrown in. In other words, too disparate a collection despite the unifying topic of boundary. |
Review # 2 was written on 2019-09-02 00:00:00 Ellick Erickson My good friend, JCW gave me this book for Christmas. It is filled with the fun nuggets of trivia I love to collect. |
