Review # 1 was written on 2021-02-05 00:00:00 Terence Pare In 1966, when this anthology was published, it was to represent 'new developments' - both more established writers trying new things and younger, lesser known authors using modern techniques. Some 55 years later, of course, these short stories are no longer new developments. In general terms these stories to me felt dated. Some still held well - others I found hard to persist with. The stories were predominantly fiction, although at least Olaf Ruhen's story was non-fiction. There are a couple of others which may have been non-fiction, but they were non-specific. The stories I felt were appealing to me were Ruhen's 'My First Whale'; Maurice Shadbolt's The people before. But for the most part, not of particular interest. A case of wanting to enjoy this much more than I did, unfortunately. 2 stars.

Review # 2 was written on 2014-12-24 00:00:00 Gerard Cassidy All but one of these stories was hard going with terribly boring plots. The one story that held my interest was terribly depressing.
