Overview of what it covers: - Arithmetic & Algebra Basics - Linear & Non-Linear Functions - Indices & Logarithms - Differentiation - Unconstrained Optimisation - Partial Differentiation - Constrained Multi-Variable Optimisation (this includes the Lagrangian Multiplier) - Integration - Further topics like Matrices These topics are all presented with Economics and Finance applications. I purchased a copy of Geoff Renshaw's Maths for Economics initially, but found myself drawn more to a borrowed copy of this text from my university library due to the layout it presents the learner with. It provides the same material but presented more simply, allowing the reader to ease themselves into each topic much more quickly, relying most heavily on frequent, worked examples to convey core information efficiently. The Renshaw text is decent, but Jacques' here I found would better solidify learning outcomes etc., with the end-of-chapter sets of exercises (all answers at the back) much more comprehensive - and sometimes also more challenging - than those found more sporadically throughout the Renshaw text. Instead of compiling a few questions for a handful of related topics every now and then, the Jacques text was more structured in providing two full sets for almost every topic, firmly attached to each topic. Essentially, if you are a student of Economics, Finance, or Business who isn't very familiar with maths (or just interested in these subjects or maths related to these subjects and want a good introductory text), then I thoroughly recommend this book to you. It took me from feeling relatively uneasy with maths (experience with the subject halted at GCSE level) to actually really enjoying maths at a level much higher than I ever expected I would attain, all within about three months. It is somewhat difficult to give textbooks ratings in some ways, particularly as there are a handful of additional topics the books covers that I didn't delve into (matrices etc), but I feel this deserves a solid four stars!

I really enjoyed it...Most of it was really easy to comprehend, but still, interesting. It is very good for those who want to revise, after good holidays... Even though,I know math, there were some interesting details that teachers omit explaining and make us remember as is, but covered in the book. LIKED IT))
