Review # 1 was written on 2014-11-08 00:00:00 Sue Brady this book saved my dissertation. without it, i would have had to have done way too much theoretical work in a field that is not my primary field of study. this book brings together the SIT and social cognitive approaches into a somewhat integrated framework. this is quite an accomplishment because they seemed, for quite some time, to be mutually exclusive. However, the authors of this volume show that they are in many ways compatible--and where they differ, each can learn from the other. In a way, this volume attempts to generate an integrated theory of social cognition. It's like the string/m theory of social psychology. so thankful for this book!

Review # 2 was written on 2018-05-11 00:00:00 Joseph Messina I came at this book as someone with a really limited relationship with psychology. I have read the odd psychology book and am familiar with some of the areas that it has influenced social anthropology. However I have never taken a class or anything. I still found the book to be incredibly engaging and written in a manner which was really enjoyable and easy to follow. There was some surprise at some of the ideas being covered given the date of the book. I am more familiar with these issues being covered in the 70s or 80s in social anthropology. But they were incredibly interesting and there were a lot of important critiques which I think hold merit beyond the field itself.
