Review # 1 was written on 2013-10-26 00:00:00 Carolyn Banks I like Papineau's style of writing and have enjoyed his other books. One of the things I have typically enjoyed about his writing is the clarity with which he explains complex topics. In that regard I found this book to be a bit of a "sandwich". It starts clearly, and I thought the appendix on the history of the completeness of physics to be well written and helpful. (I found the appendix interesting, and given Papineau's interest in the philosophy of science well grounded - but I also felt it as an unnecessary addition to the book). The middle chapters were not as clear and took some time to work through, and I wavered on 3 stars. However, it got 4 in the end. I don't think you have to agree with Papineau's arguments to get value from the book. |
Review # 2 was written on 2013-03-09 00:00:00 Laurence Lindeman It is certainly inspiring..however it needs further philosophical qualifications to yield a sound explanation of consciousness. .. |
