Review # 1 was written on 2012-10-13 00:00:00 Bianka Matchett Hazleton gives a testimony to raw encounter with Sinai and Negev deserts surrounding Israel. After extensive travels in the Negev, she observes that we all carry a basic fear of being lost. Normally this fear lies below the threshold of awareness. In the desert, it rises to consciousness. And for anyone traveling alone in the desert, it is a nagging fear that cannot be ignored. “It seems to me,” Hazelton adds, “that it is not physical death we fear in the desert so much as death of the soul.” (p. 45) |
Review # 2 was written on 2016-10-13 00:00:00 Daniel Hong After three short trips into the Negev, I can completely relate to the emotions stirred in the author by that unusual place. The book is highly readable and full of historical and biological facts previously unknown to me. |
