Review # 1 was written on 2010-05-06 00:00:00 Michael Mcgrath This is an interesting book, but it is quite dense and academic. If you want to learn more about why music is monumental or why Hitler loved Wagner and Bruckner so much, you should check it out. Copious footnotes and bibliographical references, plus a nice index. Not a fun read, but you will learn a lot. |
Review # 2 was written on 2021-01-22 00:00:00 Bonnie Heller "We ordinarily use mistakes to fuel self-denial, as a proof of our incompetence. But since mistakes are inevitable, try turning them instead to your best advantage. Embrace your mistakes; accept the self who makes them. This is the creative response, one that allows music to find its true shape inside you. Mistakes are your best friends. They bring a message. They tell you what to do next and light the way. They come about because you have not understood something, or have learned something incompletely. They tell you that you are moving too fast, or looking in the wrong direction." |
