Review # 1 was written on 2020-04-20 00:00:00 Kevin Thibodeau A vivid record of daily life in one of Boston's poorer neighborhoods in the 1970s, this collection of photos really hits its stride with a section of often shocking photos of the white backlash against school busing. A valuable historical document. |
Review # 2 was written on 2015-02-02 00:00:00 Myles Bowie I just received this book today & have spent the afternoon pouring over the unvarnished photographs of my hometown. I was born & raised in Dorchester (1963-1995) & am proud if it. This is not a happy stroll down memory lane for us OFDers. It is an all to accurate & realistic depiction of the turmoil & upheaval that residents of Dorchester experienced starting in the late 60's/early 70's. These are the real memories not the candy coated depictions of big families dressed up in their Sunday bests that you see in other books about growing up in Dorchester. The amazing photographs are accompanied by spare prose that concisely describe the moments and the period. |
