O'Connell gives a detailed, historically grounded argument that as society evolves, it grows more counterproductive to settle issues by holding mass killing contests. He suggests that war has outlived its usefulness. And indeed it has. Except, we keep turning back to old tricks regardless of how heavily the costs outweigh the benefits.

This is an excellent account of one woman's experience with the military with respect to the POW/MIA issue and her search for the truth as to what happened to her husband. It provides a perspective for all those who have no experience with the issue. If you truly want to find out how the spouse of a soldier experiences the POW/MIA issue and all that it entails read this book.
