Review # 1 was written on 2014-11-05 00:00:00 Fredrik Balldin This book had more to do with how Mesa Verde became a National Park. We begin with a brief overview of the Pueblo people, but move quickly into how and when it was "discovered," the process of excavation and the notable participants of such, tourism, funding, advocacy etc. This book was less interesting to me than The Mesa Verde World, but it had information that was important to know in terms of grasping how and why Mesa Verde National Park is funded and preserved to this day. It had some intriguing tidbits, such as the personal interest (and subsequent funding) of J.D. Rockefeller and how it was pushed to become a park notably by a group of women. Also, it's a good coffee table book in that it has some truly amazing pictures. Browsing this book alone will have you longing to visit the variety of sites Mesa Verde has to offer, which is, perhaps, the point. |
Review # 2 was written on 2009-06-28 00:00:00 James Gravley I brought this book as it was deeply discounted at Mesa Verde. It had some interesting stories. |
