Review # 2 was written on 2016-12-10 00:00:00 Rozetta Bridgforth For my personal reference: I gave up reading this about two-thirds of the way through. I think it was quite good for what it was: the author talks with substantive knowledge and real passion about his subjects. But I lost interest after a while, mostly because I'm more of a rock person than a jazz person. I would think someone with an organic interest in the history of jazz would very much enjoy this book, however. It did cause me to look up some jazz classics from the 20s and 30s on iTunes and listen to them, which was educational and fun, particularly in the light of the author's detailed descriptions of some of these tunes. |
