I quite enjoyed this little retelling, actually -- enough to record a read aloud version for the kiddo's iPod. South American content is hard to find except for Chile, and this isn't bad for helping to fill the gap. The forward mentions Tupi people by name, which is good. But the illustrations are SUPER eighties, especially the humans... just not to my taste. And I can't love a picture book when I don't love the art, you know?

Typically, I enjoy Joanna Troughton's writing and re-telling of folk tales, however I found this book much harder to follow and lacking the structure her writing usually has. I just don't think this was the best representation of a fantastic author. However, the illustrations were beautiful as usual!
