Review # 1 was written on 2018-08-27 00:00:00 Mark Ballard I am fond of odd children's stories, especially with religious themes and funky drawings. I loved Hirsh's "The Rabbi and the Twenty-Nine Witches" when I was a child and really enjoyed this one, too. This old Talmudic fable (also found in "A Thousand and One Arabian Nights"!) definitely punishes the Rich Guy, but is a wonderful tale about the power of keeping Sabbath and savoring the joy of everyday life and friendships. Also, the drawings are fantastic. |
Review # 2 was written on 2018-05-07 00:00:00 Anthony Rael One of our favorite children's stories, taken from the Talmud. (Shabbat 119), it tells the story of Joseph who was poor but scrimped all week to make Shabbat special. His neighbors thought he was crazy. His landlord too but feared that Joseph would one day inherit all his property. So he sold it and bought a big jewel. You will have to read it to glean the rest of the story. |
