This is one of only two books that I have ever found about a young person (teen or even early adult) with an autoimmune arthritis disease. Though the protagonist was not a particularly likable person, I related so deeply with her when she started to feel the beginning of her autoimmune arthritis disease begin to take hold. She is deeply invested in dance. She teaches step aerobics at her local gym, she is the head cheerleaders, and she founded a trio dance troop that is on the way to getting a spot at a national televised competition. All this is taken away from her when she practices too hard a couple too may times and triggers her arthritis to flare up. Once diagnosed with arthritis she is in serious denial. As someone who was diagnosed with an autoimmune arthritis disease when I was 23 years old and deeply invested in Swing Dance, this book touched very close to home. I wish there were more books that existed about teens or people in their early 20s with autoimmune arthritis diseases.
