Review # 1 was written on 2008-07-12 00:00:00 Ann Willis Enjoyed spotting which bits were by Dickens and which by Wilkie Collins - their styles are often very similar, but when it's Dickens you usually get a bit which is just unmistakeable! I especially liked the two Gothic short stories by Dickens embedded in 'The Lazy Tour of the Two Idle Apprentices' - one of these seems strongly linked in theme with 'A Tale of Two Cities'. Also enjoyed Dickens and Collins' descriptions of one another in 'The Lazy Tour'. |
Review # 2 was written on 2021-02-25 00:00:00 James Mullan If I had to introduce young people to the joy of reading, this is probably one of the books I'd highly recommend. Compelling stories, all masterfully crafted and well written by a smooth literary hand that never eases up the excitement. There's a reason why Frederick Forsythe is one of the kings of thrillers. This book has ten examples of that. Don't take my word for it. Here read a sample of the first story and decide for your own self. |
