I have a hardcover version of this book, which I have thoroughly read and used in building and designing model aircraft. I specifically used the Spitfire Mk. I drawing in the book, and made a nice 44" span Spifire Mk. I R/C. What the book is really good for is to see and learn about aircraft that would be otherwise unknown. Many planes came into service in 1918 that weren't glamourized because the war ended. Some of them played a role in the twenties and thirties. The policy of 'Air Control' in the Far East of the British Empire still resonates today, with its stories of rebellions and 'bombing the villages' without risking valuable columns of troops and equipment in terrible terrain far from support. Some really beautiful aircraft are to be found in the book, replete with photos and three-view drawings. Also included are technical specifications. What comes to mind is the many different books where a plane might be pictured. One book says '1,400 hp' and another book says '1,230 hp.' A full explanation of all the production models is a handy thing for any scale modeler, historian, or writer. There are a few planes left out, and Thetford wrote separate books on RN aircraft and other titles.
