On the plus side, a lot of photographs and illustrations are brought together into one place, and the text is brief, the book quick to read. It's been nicely put together. For people new to Spurgeon this could be a very interesting and informative read . . . but for me it just didn't do much. The text was too brief. Not that I wanted to read another lengthy biography of Spurgeon, but if I did want to read a biography of him it would not be this one. It didn't really capture much of his spirit and character. I'm not sure that it would actually inspire anyone to actually go and read Spurgeon's writings for himself. Does it leave people longing to know more about Spurgeon, and make them feel that they've learned as much as they need to and want to?

Read it through scans on archive.org. Moved me again and again like few things I have read. Its rather massive, four volumes of four hundred pages. But I expect to read it again several times. Reading Spurgeons Autobiography confirmed me in godly confidence in the power of the word and the necessity of the Spirit. It helped to clarify my ambitions, gave new fire to my desires to preach, and challenged me to believe greater things concerning what God will do with a man surrendered to Him.
