Review # 1 was written on 2015-05-16 00:00:00 Carlo Spoon Great book, very precise and substantial in context, a perfect read for students of grammar - and those who wanted to improve their grammar skills. I found this book as a perfect supplement, in my college technical writing course; furthermore, the grammar trivia "add-ins" - a brain' refreshment.

Review # 2 was written on 2013-07-17 00:00:00 John Aguurs Sr In 1994, this was our college Business English class textbook. I have found this book to be the BEST, most USEFUL, PRACTICAL, applicable-to-everyday-life skill book I have ever had the privilege to use. The exercises were easy to learn, insured long-term retention (30 years and counting), and were fun and interesting to complete. This book isn’t just for Business English. It would be a wonderful supplement, or replacement, for high school and upper college writing classes. There’s no reason why the acquisition of solid English writing skills should be difficult and useless. Dr. McGuffey makes it useful and easy. As part of my class, we were required to write a piece of business correspondence. I chose to write to Dr. Guffey to let her know how helpful her book was. She very kindly and quickly responded. I have always remembered this. Since then, I have gone on to teach English as a Second Language, and am now a published writer. I have used the skills I acquired from her course in both the classroom setting to teach my own students, as well as on a daily basis in personal correspondence and professional pieces. Many times over the years, I have had the opportunity to recommend her book to others so they, too, may easily, practically and successfully improve their skills. I am now using this book to help my daughter achieve her own goals of becoming a professional writer. Dr. Guffey makes writing EASY. And it IS.
