Review # 1 was written on 2015-06-08 00:00:00 Bill Andrew This book had a really great overview of the debacle that has been the South African AIDS reaction. It's fairly disparaging towards the Mbeki regime, but with good reason. It's also backed by facts and documentation, so the remarks aren't without evidence. It's probably the best book I have ever read on the South African HIV reaction. I highly recommend it, but it's a very academic book. It was written by through a University, so it reads sort of like an interesting dissertation. I recommend it for any AIDS enthusiasts, or those who want to know more about why South Africa has more HIV positive people than any other country in the world. |
Review # 2 was written on 2011-12-26 00:00:00 Rob Stein I read this book hoping for a general overview of what bioethics is all about. This book is not that. However, it is an interesting and exceptionally well thought out series of essays on several contemporary ethical issues within the scientific community. At heart, the author is a lawyer, so I believe much of the language could have been simplified and condensed, but aside from that and some unnecessary swipes at a former President, this is an excellent book which will definitely challenge your thinking, and may even change your points of view. |
