Review # 1 was written on 2011-02-07 00:00:00 Norman Hew-shue Meh. I'm new to this whole teaching thing, so I figured I'd have a tough time deciding which textbooks to use. For this particular book, that wasn't the case--I didn't love it. I'm not even sure I liked it. The layout is actually pretty good, and just flipping through it I wanted to like it. But once I started reading I noticed it spends a lot of time and energy separating ESL students (rule-followers with syntax issues?) from native English speakers (who have an ear for the language but an unfortunate tendency to write in slang?) and it feels like it's segregating any potential class using it into two very distinct categories from the get-go. Which doesn't sit well with me. I'm not working with two separate groups of students, so why run the class this way?

Review # 2 was written on 2019-01-28 00:00:00 Christopher Haas This book was the textbook that I used when I audited "Structure of English" in University of Delaware. Very good book, great and simple explanation.
