Review # 1 was written on 2017-10-23 00:00:00 Isabel Pereira This is del Rey's fourth annual anthology of his picks as the best stories in the science fiction field for the previous year, which was 1974. There used to be several such series, and it was always fun to compare the contents. I don't think this one was as strong as del Rey's earlier volumes, and I believe this may have been the last one he edited; Gardner Dozois took over the series. I most enjoyed the stories by Vonda N. McIntyre, Gordon R. Dickson, Robert Silverberg, and Alan Dean Foster. As I remember, my favorite was Clifford D. Simak's The Birch Clump Cylinder, one of his last stories.
