2 1/2 stars. God deliver me from trotskyists lmao. A pretty okay read -- i am always uneasy when i read "radical", so i thought this might be TERFy shit, but it's not. The book starts off with pretty solid theory on women's liberation that i found myself agreeing with. Then they dive into bullshit, revisionist trotskyism [trotsky was a traitor who got what he deserved] -- claiming that revolution is only possible in the world once it happens in the united states, ignoring the numerous struggles in the Global South. This reprinting was in 1999, so there's no reason for this asinine line of thinking. But it's trotskyism, so... Also LOLing at the assertion that "Stalinism" developed into Maoism. Christ. Also, i was going to overlook the casual mis-education on transgender issues here, because it's been a long time since this was written, but it was 1999; Leslie Feinberg was out, Marsha P. Johnson had lived and died, Kate Bornstein was out; there's really no excuse to still be calling transgender people "sexual minorities" in a supposedly revolutionary group in 1999. It's irresponsible. Overall, it's an alright read. Could absolutely do without the whining about Stalin and u.s.-based "socialist revolution" talk, but at least the feminist theory and careful attention to Indigenous and Black women is solid. Hopefully this group abandons revisionist trotskyism and embraces marxism-leninism.

Extremely comprehensive and straightforward, and the emboldening optimism with which its written is refreshing. My only two critiques of the politics presented within are: 1. the organization's stance on sex work and the legalization of prostitution (though their platform does demand it) feels at time a bit reactionary, and 2. the lack of analysis on how transphobia, transmisogyny, and our culture's strict adherence to a nonexistent gender binary continually marginalize and exploit trans women and gender non-confirming individuals in ways unexperienced by our cis women comrades is a glaring oversight. Otherwise, the explanation of how socialist and feminist aims are inherently intertwined was written in a way easily understood by those new to theory or the movement, and I would happily lend this book to any sister who was looking to educate herself further (after lengthy discussion with her about my previous two points.)
