Volumes 6-8 in the great Marcus Didius Falco series. This series is the perfect combination of noir detectives and ancient Rome for me. I always loved ancient Rome (since I first read Asterix) and detective stories. I devoured the series and it was one of my inspirations when I started writing my own. I have left individual reviews for each of the three volumes: Last Act in Palmyra Time to Depart A Dying Light in Corduba The short version is to expect a classic hard-boiled detective, set in a well-researched backdrop of Rome under Vespasian, in the 70's AD. The omnibus is a great way if you want volumes 6-8 in one go, but do make sure you read the series in order. -- Assaph Mehr, author of Murder In Absentia: A story of Togas, Daggers, and Magic - for lovers of Ancient Rome, Murder Mysteries, and Urban Fantasy.

I quite liked these Falco PI stories, especially the theatrical troupe one. But, by the end I think I've had my fill of Roman gangsta tales. Maybe there is something to be said for the single volume rather than a complete package. Toast
