Review # 1 was written on 2012-07-07 00:00:00 Perminder Dubb Diggins knows a lot about Weber and sociology, but unfortunately he knows less about German intellectual history (except for the highlights) and extremely little (perhaps nothing) about Protestantism (or its supposed "ethic"). Because Diggins places Weber solely in a left-of-center intellectual canon, I think he misses quite a bit of Weber. Its a good book, but perhaps better for sociologists than for historians. |
Review # 2 was written on 2010-08-03 00:00:00 William Barkes Superb biography demonstrating Weber was a "product" of his time. He belong to a very special circle of friends which included Freud and were influenced by Schopenhauer and Nietzsche. |
