Just to be clear, the 5-star rating system on Goodreads (and Amazon, for that matter) is a measure of how much you like the book, not how good it is. So it is with this in mind that I give the book 4-stars. From his bio, the book's author, Harry Milman, is very accomplished in his profession of toxicology. And he has written and published extensively in that area. It is also clear that Milman has an active, fertile, and fantastical imagination. You've just got to admire a guy who has an idea and the determination to get that idea down on paper. Harry Milman clearly has both. This book is the result. As mysteries go, this one is so-so. It involves a lot of politics and sex. So there's enough there to keep you interested. There are flaws to be sure. Milman suggests that the White House Social Office would be in charge of security at a presidential party. (Doubtful.) He loses track of whether the victim's ear rings have diamonds or pearls. And moving a dead body to get it out of your bedroom is probably not without legal consequences no matter who you are. But it's the writing - at times stilted, at times hackneyed, always amateurish - that gave me the laugh-out-loud, eye-roll moments that had me enjoying this book. Milman has never met a cliche he didn't like. The main character - who just happens to be a toxicologist - is a sexual tiger. (Aren't we all?) I kept going not because I wanted to find out what happened next (though, I admit, I did) but to enjoy the crazy prose. The publisher, Xlibris, must be a self-service or vanity publisher. I'm not trying to be mean. Milman had his idea, wrote his mystery, and got his book published. I have nothing but admiration for his initiative, determination, and his pursuit of a dream. This book was a gift to me. Had it not been for that and that it's clearly a quick read, I probably wouldn't have bothered reading it. But if you find yourself gifted with this book as I was, take the few hours you'll need to read it. Preposterous story, writing that has to be read to be believed, but you'll be supporting a dream.

A strange story full of odd sexual digressions involving White House officials. The author would have done better to use his medical and science background to create a more realistic story.
