Review # 2 was written on 2017-08-07 00:00:00 Spencer Zoller Audience for this book dwells somewhere between semi-advanced art-lovers and begginers. If you heard names of Raphael, Michelangelo, Jotto, Da Vinchi, some of their work are known to you, but you want a little more knowledge about Italian Renaissance - this is the book for you. It covers paintings, drawings and architecture of this era with the great emphasis on the first one, lists all the main figures of Renaissance and tells briefly about their work. A lot of big, perfectly made prints. The only part of it I digged for myself is proto-Renaissance, time period when Gothic style was abandonded and new, human-centric one was created. I was always interested in this moment of art history and the book actually devotes a lot of pages to this matter, emphasizing on Assizi and Barna di Siena chappels. That part was interesting. High Renaissance figures and their genious works are described absurdly abrupt - wikipedia articles contain a lot more information. The only excuse for that again are high quality reproductions. |
