The best introduction to Stats at about 'A level' level or for those doing ancillary stats at university or the curious. The author assumes some knowledge of calculus and algebraic manipulation as he often, thankfully, derives his theorems. But if you come to it with this knowledge you will find it an exciting read. It is also very practical with great examples. Stats, to me, is a bit like cookery, and one must look up the recipes (there are very many). It is ok for that, too.

I had studied the entirety of this textbook over the course of two university semesters. The textbook serves as a simple introduction, and delves unhurriedly and systemically into more advanced theories. A student will find an abundance of exercises to work through, and an adequate number of solved examples for almost each concept you come across in the chapters. As a bonus, I have absolutely enjoyed the case studies and articles included.
