This book has a little something for everyone. There were parts of it that were absolutely uninteresting to me, like the part about how to plan a wedding. I don't give a crap. I'm not getting married any time soon, and I'm not having a white-people wedding anyway, so I skipped that whole section. But there were lots of other little portions that interested me - the discussion of famous musicians, famous books and plays, famous fashion designers (who often write the intros to each chapter), historical and political events, famous couples in history, that sort of thing. The book is light and funny and whimsical, but still very informative and educational. Advice about how to dress like a burlesque star (additional tips provided by Dita Von Teese herself!) and home remedies for getting rid of pimples appears alongside an essay on the English monarchy, Napoleon, the split between England and the Church, and so much more. It's a history book, a fashion book, a collection of synopses for avid readers, a how-to on dining and entertainment, a guide to manners and etiquette, all of it rolled together into one. I wrote a blog post in my book journal listing different things mentioned in the book that I want to try. If you're curious, you can access it here , along with any other posts about this book I might write in the near future.

I was expecting something completely different. I read the subtitle wrong, and thought the book would be about the rules and society of Jane Austen's time. I think this book is meant to be a reference book on how to do things the "right" way - from walking the red carpet, to writing thank you notes. I just did not enjoy it.
