Review # 1 was written on 2010-04-13 00:00:00 Alessandra Zacchino Banned books are forbidden fruits of literature. Tempting and desirable.Years back I recall how eager I was to get hold of Satanic verses by Salman Rushdie than mend things with my ex.This book consciously scripts out a well researched list of the banned literary works from the early 20th century till the recent. It picks out a selected few titles and gives a brief summary of its content and censorship history. It is a wonderful read and quite informative. I would have liked it more if the authors could have elucidated the censorship aspect a bit more clearly. Yet, it is enjoyable as it has the list of all the scandalous books ever printed in the literature history. |
Review # 2 was written on 2010-10-03 00:00:00 Joseph Smetanka This is a series. There is also a volume of Literature suppressed on political grounds and literature suppressed on religious grounds. I checked these out from the library and I am going to have to buy them. I want to go crazy with the highlighter pen inside these books. Lots of information here. I am starting to think it should be a civic duty to read banned literature. it is amazing how people are so eager to read books that they have not even read. These are very good reference books. |
