Review # 1 was written on 2010-11-18 00:00:00 Victor Klujsza Occasionally I introduce a book by opening to the front end-papers and ask "What color is this?" (Green!) Then I ask, "Are we to the story yet?" (NO) I turn the page and ask, "Are we to the story yet?" (NO) "This is the title page. See, here is the title and here is the name of the author (the person who wrote the story) and the illustrator (the person who made the pictures)." I turn the page and ask, "Are we to the story yet?" (some say YES, some say NO) "It says here this book is for... It's a dedication." I turn the page and ask, "Are we to the story yet?" (YES) This version of the story works well for story time. It is big enough to see. The illustrations are lively, bright, and clear. The children count with it (holding up ten fingers, then nine, and so forth). The story is told in rhyming couplets-- door/floor, tree/knee. There are a variety of verbs--tripped, slipped, tumbled, rolling, hiking, fishing, etc.--all of which can be dramatized by the group using their arms and hands. AND it is a palindrome, ending as it began, with ten little monkeys jumping on the bed. I asked the children, "Is being a mom a job?" "Is being a doctor a job?"

Review # 2 was written on 2020-02-21 00:00:00 Justin Jackson An extended version of the traditional finger play 5 Little Monkeys. I enjoyed that the author chose for the monkeys to be outside doing what kids should be doing-PLAYING! Bumps and bruises are part of the growing up process when playing. This book was published in 2007 and amazingly technology has gone beyond some of the illustrations in this book. However the story still works well and the illustrations are colorful and bright.
