This has not aged well. Much that is presented as new science is dated and proven to be wrong. He denies the current mass extinction, claims that if the world was governed by true capitalism, no resources would ever be over exploited, and speaks of ecology as a "neurosis". If it wasn't for all of the flagrant disinformation, the tone throughout the entire text is overwhelmingly arrogant. He speaks of any "nature lovers", ecologists, and politician as if everyone is embarrassingly naive and completely incompetent. I see what he tries to do, but even if I let the dated facts go, there's no denying that this is unflatteringly bitter, which only weaken his own arguments and make them look bad. If he had managed to present his point of view in a somewhat humble manner, and proven his arguments will well presented fact, I could have given this a higher grade, but no.

This is a nature book with a difference - the author's view is that we cannot leave nature alone to deal with modern life, but need to actively manage the resources that we have. By doing this, we can make sure that endangered animals and landscapes are protected. He gives a lot of compelling evidence and you can't help agreeing with a lot of his ideas. He points out that Nature is all about change and that the modern way of just leaving it to get on with it, won't bring about the status quo that a lot of people think it will. This should be compulsory reading for anyone even vaguely interested in such things.
