Review # 1 was written on 2008-11-07 00:00:00 Carl Rondeau If you've ever dreamt of going to New York City, whether for a trip or to live there; or, if you have always believed that although you are born in a small town in Malaysia, deep down you know you belong to the Big Apple; or, regardless of whatever negative annotations associated with the city that never sleeps, you still regard New York City as your true love; or, whenever Jay-z was rapping on the radio and Alicia was playing the accompaniment, you know the lyrics by heart, then, this book is for you. Of course this book is not the ultimate book to get to know NYC. With a long streak of history stretching back to the 17th century, there is no one single book could encompass all the history you need to know about NYC. But this is a rather good place to start. This book shows the historic districts and individual landmarks identified by the NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission through out the 5 boroughs. The architectural description of the facade and interior of some of the famous landmarks are very detailed too. This is the first of the many books on NYC that I read, and there will be many more to come I am certain. The only thing bad about this book is that they provided too little photos. Hence, 3 stars.

Review # 2 was written on 2010-01-24 00:00:00 Jonathan Tremblay Its a book which--as usual--paints an utterly false picture of New York City. If you never visit this city..or if you visit here as a tourist, but never reside here--yes, it might be a great book for your coffee table or your bookshelf. If you ever come here to live you will find nothing but scorn for such publications because direct experience provides such a thorough contradiction of everything the book describes. New York City...so inherently and utterly despicable... trust me, the buildings don't matter. No one who lives here ever goes to see them, what does that say to you? These structures are only fit for photographs.
